November 7, 2020 by Gene Monterastelli

The people who are most interested in personal development are often also the kind of people who put the needs of everyone else ahead of their own. When this happens over a long period of time we can even end up feeling that we do not deserve good things in our lives.

Today we are going to tap for recognizing that we are worthy of good things in our lives as well as being open to allowing them in.

2020 Tapping Challenge: Day 3 – Tapping to love yourself more

November 3, 2020 by Gene Monterastelli

The hardest person to love is usually ourselves. We know all the ways in which we could be better. We know all the ways in which we fall short or fail.

When others fail, we are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but we are not often willing to grant ourselves that same grace.

Today we are going to tap to love ourselves more.

Pod #485: Tapping For When You Hit An Emotional Wall

October 28, 2020 by Gene Monterastelli

Because of everything going on in the world at the moment, my theory is that we are all paying a 20% energy tax from the moment we get up. It's as if we are losing 20% of our energy before we have even started the day because of the underlying feelings of worry and overwhelm.

Some days these feelings are at the front of our minds and hearts, other days they're constantly playing in the background.

At some point these long term energy and emotional leaks add up and we just hit an emotional or energetic wall. Life feels too much for us to manage and we just break down.

This week I have a tap-along audio and tapping script to help when you feel like you have slammed into a brick wall.

Reminder: I have compiled a list of over 50 free tapping resources to help to manage all of the emotions stirred up by the pandemic.

Pod #484: Tapping For When Everything Goes Wrong

October 21, 2020 by Gene Monterastelli

There are times when things go wrong and then there are times when things REALLY go wrong. The week of recording this podcast my website was down for a number of days and I was unable to access my email.

I experienced a range of strong emotions around the situation including feeling frustrated, maddened and overwhelmed.

This week's podcast contains the tapping you can do when life is going very wrong. As well as tapping for the big picture “things are going very wrong” issue, I have also included tapping for how to calm down in the moment and how to tap where your emotions get the better of you and you do things you regret. (You will hear exactly why I needed to do that type of tapping in the audio.)

This is a tap-along that I recommend you bookmark and save so that when something similar comes up for you, you will be ready.

Pod #483: Tapping for Comparanoia

October 14, 2020 by Gene Monterastelli

Many of us have a love/hate relationship with social media. One one hand I genuinely love how easy social media makes it to stay connected to my friends and family from all over the world. It's great to be able to see what they are up to. I love seeing their kids grow up and I love being able to share a joke across the country and across the world.

At the same time, looking at the seemingly perfect pictures others post on social media about all the good times they are having can be perilous.

This is especially true for the current situation we are in the middle of right now. As we struggle with our day-to-day we are confronted by pictures of all the incredibly creative things people are doing with their free time and how they seem to be handling this mess so much better than we are.

It's vital to remember that social media tends to show us a carefully curated version of people's lives. It is the good things. It is the happy things. It is the pretty things.

When we only see the best of other people's lives it's easy to feel like we are failing and that comparison can feel toxic.

This week I have a simple tap-along audio and tapping script for those times when you are struggling with comparanoia.

Pod #482 Your Brain, Your Organs, Your Nervous System, Your Emotions, And Tapping w/ Jen Cincurak

October 7, 2020 by Gene Monterastelli

The more time I spend studying the human body, the more its complexity amazes me. We are a combination of biological functions, thoughts, beliefs, memories, and an entire pharmacy of biochemistry that is released and absorbed by our bodies based on a whole host of factors.

Even though our system is so complex, it does work in predictable ways and this is true for the way we experience and remember trauma. Understanding how these processes work makes it easier to use tapping to create healing and transformation.

In this week's podcast Jen Cincurak and I explore how the brain, organs, and nervous system are involved in trauma. We also talk about how this understanding can make it easier to achieve more powerful results with tapping.

Pod #481: Why you shouldn’t use words when tapping w/ Gwyneth Moss

September 30, 2020 by Gene Monterastelli

The most common reason that most people don't tap on their own is because they don't know what words to say. Nearly everyone is taught to tap using words, so this preoccupation is understandable.

In this podcast Gwyneth Moss and I have a conversation that has completely changed the way that I teach tapping and how I encourage most people to tap on their own.

The best part about it is that it doesn't require you to come up with any words or phrases, which makes it easier to tap.

Much of what Gwyneth Moss talks about in this interview is based on Gunilla Hamne and Ulf Sandström's Trauma Tapping Technique (TTT). You can find out more about TTT by visiting their website peacefulheart.se.

How not to tap for an issue

One of the sessions in my recent Mastering the Art of Delivery training was about the lessons I've learned from other teachers and healing masters.

I started the presentation off with this video, which is how NOT to work with a client, but it always makes me laugh.

Pod #480: Moving Past An Extinction Burst

September 23, 2020 by Gene Monterastelli

You have been there before. You're trying to make a positive change in your life, such as giving up sweets.

The first day is hard. The second is harder. The third day, for some unknown reason, is really easy. You feel awesome. You are making progress. Real change is happening!

But then along comes day four…

You come home from work and find yourself eating one little piece of candy. You think, “This is no big deal. It is only one piece.”

Before you know it, one piece turns into two, then four, and then the bag is empty and you think, “Screw it! It’s too late and I've totally messed up!” and you devour every sweet in the house plus some potato chips for good measure.

Within moments you’re filled with shame and self-loathing. You wake up the next morning feeling defeated.

What you have just experienced is an “extinction burst”. I think David McRaney described extinction burst perfectly when he writes: “a predictable and common blast of defiance from the recesses of a brain denied familiar rewards.”

In this week's podcast I share with you:

  • why extinction bursts happen
  • how they can undermine our progress and our willingness to tap
  • how to get past an extinction burst to create healthier habits

This is a concept that is key to understand to be able to heal and move forward.

Pod #479: How To End A Tapping Session

September 16, 2020 by Gene Monterastelli

When we are tapping for a specific issue it can often feel as if there is a small bit of it remaining that we can't quite put our finger on. It seems like a shadow of the issue hanging around in the background, rather than the issue itself.

When this happens it is hard to know which phrases to tap on to resolve the last little bit of the issue. In this week's podcast I share the process I use when the SUDs level is at a 2 or less. You can learn it in just 30 seconds and will find it easy to repeat whenever you need it.

Pod #478: Tapping for Chronic Illness and Pain w/ Dr. Peta Stapleton

September 9, 2020 by Gene Monterastelli

Chronic issues can be some of the most difficult to address with tapping and EFT because usually there is no obvious root cause. The physical ailments can begin months or even years after the trauma occurred and since it's hard to know when the issue began, we don't have a clear target for our tapping.

In this conversation Dr. Peta Stapleton shares why trauma can create chronic issues and how to tap effectively for these issues using their physical symptoms. Her perspective is informed by the early results of the tapping for chronic illness study that she is currently leading.

Peta has been a guest many times on the podcast and you can find all of our past conversations in the podcast archive.

Pod #477: Why I’m OK with the bad choices I’m making

September 3, 2020 by Gene Monterastelli

Recently I have changed my mind about making bad choices. Instead of feeling frustrated with myself, I have decided to embrace occasionally making bad choices as long as I make them in a conscious way.

Strangely this decision has been helping me to make better, healthier choices!

In this week's podcast I explore why I am allowing myself to make poor or unhealthy choices, why it ultimately helps me to make better choices, and I have also included a tap-along to support these choices.
