Pod #548: Setting a tapping session up for success

March 1, 2023 by Gene Monterastelli

In most areas of my life, I have found that taking some time to think about what I am trying to accomplish and my motivation sets me up for a better outcome. I am more present to the action I am taking. I am more attentive to what is and is not working. And I am much more likely to take the most effective actions because I'm clear about what I am trying. This is especially true with tapping. Without clarity on what you are trying to achieve with a round of tapping, it is easy to jump from ...

Pod #547: Tapping for loneliness and disconnection

February 22, 2023 by Gene Monterastelli

A recent Harvard study found that 36% of the population of the United States, with some groups (such as young adults) experiencing a much higher prevalence of loneliness. Not only does the study point out that loneliness is becoming a serious issue, it also shows "the potentially steep costs of loneliness, including early mortality and a wide array of serious physical and emotional problems, including depression, anxiety, heart disease, substance abuse, and domestic abuse." I know that I ...

Pod #546: 4 things I say out loud before every tapping session

February 15, 2023 by Gene Monterastelli

Recently, I was watching the behind-the-scenes documentary of Six Impossible Things. Six Impossible Things was a magic show created by one of the best close-up magicians alive today, Joshua Jay. In the documentary Joshua and his creative team not only reveal how the tricks are done, but they explain everything they did to create the show and make it a success. Near the end of the documentary Joshua shares the three phrases he reads to himself before every show to ensure he is ready. As a ...

Pod #545: Tapping to regain focus

February 10, 2023 by Gene Monterastelli

I recorded this podcast two weeks after returning from East Africa. Even two weeks after getting home, I was having a really hard time staying focused. My body was recovering from crossing seven time zones and the shock of adjusting from 97° F one day, to 7° F the next. My heart and mind were still recovering from the many stories of suffering and overcoming that suffering that we heard in schools, a prison, and refugee camps. Even if you haven't traveled from the other side of the ...

Day 10 – Tapping With Refugees

February 2, 2023 by Gene Monterastelli

Today we spent time in Bidi Bidi Refugee Settlement, which at one point was the largest refugee camp in the world. As of 2018, it became the second largest behind the Kutupalong refugee camp in Bangladesh. There are over 250,000 people living in Bidi Bidi who have fled the ongoing civil war in South Sudan. That is half the population of the entire state of Wyoming, where I grew up. Bidi Bidi is in the northernmost part of Uganda, where the climate is hot and dry; it was over 95 degrees ...

Days 6, 7, 8 and 9 – All the animals

January 30, 2023 by Gene Monterastelli

Apologies for the delay in providing updates, which is down to a couple of reasons. First, we have spent a lot of time traveling in the last four days; we have done over 20 hours by road and taken a flight from Rwanda to Uganda. Second, we haven’t worked directly with any communities for the last few days as we spent a full day touring around the Murchison Falls National Park. We have just arrived in Mayo, in the north of Uganda near the border with South Sudan, where we will see ...

Day 5 – Musanze Prison

January 22, 2023 by Gene Monterastelli

Today we spent the bulk of the day at Musanze Prison. The prison houses both men and women, in separate sections. The area that we had access to was the main courtyard, which has a volleyball net in the middle, a large covered area for gatherings, open access to the kitchen (where all meals for all 5000 inmates are made), and is lined with a number of sleeping quarters. I haven't been in a lot of jails, but I have been in more than most. The vibe of the courtyard was different from any ...

January 20, 2023 by Gene Monterastelli

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tapping Q and A (@tappingqanda) See all of the updates from our trip here. Yesterday, following our visit to the Dian Fossey center we settled in the town of Musanze in northwest of Rwanda. After an early breakfast we made our way to the Bigogwe Sector, Kijote Cell to spend the day with Callixte Rudakenga. Here are a couple of (not brilliant) photos I took on the drive: My words feel inadequate in ...

Day 3 – Pius Gorillas

January 19, 2023 by Gene Monterastelli

See all of the updates from our trip here. We had a nice slow start to the day, which was much appreciated as we are still jet lagged and yesterday was jam-packed with experiences and emotions. Good News Rwanda After a nice breakfast at the hotel we walked to a local coffee shop that is a Kenyan chain called Java Love where we met Pius Nyakayiro for coffee. Pius works for the organization Good News Rwanda. To be in his presence is to be in the presence of sunshine! The ...

Day 2 – What we are capable of

January 18, 2023 by Gene Monterastelli

See all of the updates from our trip here. It was our first full day in Rwanda. The theme of the day was "what we are capable of" by which I mean what we humans are capable of, for good and for evil. Today's post contrasts how humans are capable of unspeakable harm toward others, and also of overwhelming love and goodness. I am going to share this in two parts. Part 1 is about our visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial and Part 2 is about our visit to the Kingdom Gate School. You will also ...

Day 1 – Which was really three days

January 17, 2023 by Gene Monterastelli

See all of the updates from our trip here. At the moment I'm not exactly sure which way is up because of the way my mind and senses have been assaulted in the last few days. On Saturday evening we left my apartment in NYC. It was 31 degrees (that's just below zero for my readers using Celsius), a light snow was falling and we weren't wearing jackets because we were on our way to just south of the equator. Over the next 37 hours we had two red-eye flights, over 12 hours in layovers, ...

Pod #544: Is it an emotional or a physical issue?

December 7, 2022 by Gene Monterastelli

Scientific research is increasingly backing up what those of us in the space of transformation have known for decades: our emotional health impacts our physical health. On one level, this is very exciting. It offers us fresh ways to think about the healing process and frees us from only thinking about the body as a machine that sometimes breaks down. On another level, it brings a new level of complexity to the healing process. When we experience physical discomfort, is that because of a ...

Pod #543: I want more for you than just improving your tapping

December 1, 2022 by Gene Monterastelli

In September of 2007 I created Tapping Q and A with the express purpose of creating resources that would make it easier for people to get the most out of tapping. The tag line has been "Answers to the most common (and uncommon) questions about tapping, so that you can get the most out of each round of tapping." Recently, I have had a change of heart. I no longer want to help people just to tap more effectively. Instead, I want to help them to create lives they love by using tapping more ...
