My first memory of using EFT on my own was getting rid of one of the most profound headaches I had ever had in about 90 seconds. My second big moment was dealing with my social anxiety.
It makes sense that this is what I thought EFT was all about because in both cases I felt SO much better.
But there will be times when using tapping only as a way to feel better will do us a disservice because it impacts the action we take.
This week I explore the two different types of outcomes that come from tapping and how to make sure we get the outcome that makes the most sense for the issue we are tapping on.

Greeting Gene, I trust you are having an awesome day. Yes I agree with you tapping can make you feel better anytime. If you have made a bad choice like ice cream, mind you I like ice cream and think it is a good choice as it does make me feel better. Tapping is good when we beat our selves up for making a mistake or being lesser than we really are or saying the wrong word. The good news is that we chance change the feeling and the thought in an instant just by tapping. You are loved and appreciated Gene….. Walter

I’m really glad to see your thoughts on tapping to feel better in the moment…but perhaps without the added benefit of longer-term change.
I’ve had this question myself. I could certainly tap more often (and I’m sure more effectively). Recently, if I tap and access powerful emotions, my thought/prayer is, “OK, am I making progress with this?” This post is very timely for me. Thanks!

Really enjoyed this post (skateboarding/the river/ice cream/short term effects) I enjoy your
blog and have from its inception..Some days are
just that way and a bit of ‘self indulgence’ is just
what the Dr. ordered, but I know that you’re right
back at it come the next day…And so it goes!
Thanks again for all your efforts/energy(work)!!
I’m a big EFT guy, for everything…..
Have you read ‘The Untethered Soul’? Recently
found this bk, not sure where I’ve been hiding since it’s debut in 07, but anyway….really a
good/helpful tool/workbk Cheers!

I have not read it, but will look for it. Thanks for the recommendation.

Your comments on the ice cream hit home. Short term feeling good or the long term. It made me think of some of my decisions related to this.

For me, EFT has never been a band-aid. It either doesn’t work, or it cures some part of the problem.

I have used EFT for over 12 years for myself and with others. My daughter uses EFT and also teaches others how to use it… however it seems that there is no end to the process and this sometimes results in my feeling that there must be something more to gain longer lasting relief. Then again I am thrilled to have the tapping to assist with the daily challenges of life and I think that I have indeed changed dramatically over the years but just like we don’t seem to notice when a puppy or a kitten grows we often do not notice when we have also grown. So my big question is how to really notice the real progress that goes beyond the immediate relief, and how to appreciate the profound progress that has been accomplished

Hi Gene
Thank you. Enjoyed it as always. Your perspactive is always fresh..
I have found taht many times I can not tap when in pain… hahha..of course I gave it alot of thought…I think that sometimes when in pain we regress to some very young emotional age. At this state it is not easy to tap,
I will say more if it interests you..
blessings and love

So before I read the whole article I went out and got some yummy coconut milk, Chocolate, nondairy frozen dessert (ice cream by other names) and ate 2 of the 4 servings in the container. Yup, it worked for me. Now onto to what you wrote…lol…

Thank you for this beautifully honest post. To me, perception has a lot to do with outcome. My spiritual practice teaches me not to partake of things I think are bad for me. The law of attraction teaches pretty much the same. I don’t see any food as crap food. Consequently, anything I eat feels wonderful to me. I love ice cream. I don’t eat it often, but when I do I feel truly and deeply nourished. Also, I don’t have what this culture would call an ideal body, but I love and appreciate the one I have. Thank you for being exactly who you are. I learn so much from you.

absolutely true..this is why i try for myself and i recommend that my eft clients also incorporate a tapping daily ritual into their lives..some days you won’t get around to it, but at least you are working on it and it has incredible effects for those in between times and overall!

I am reading Steve Wells new 100% yes book and resonated with this sentence -using SET to help you create a better, more successful future, rather than just using it in a remedial fashion to fix your current problems.
I like your thoughts that we are sometimes just tapping in the middle.
I feel like a good girl for doing some tapping to feel better, and can leave it at that feeling satisfied I have taken action.
Though to get what I want more quickly, tapping for new action could be the key.
Thanks for the trigger and thoughts Gene. I love your helpful information.

Great post. For me, it’s not ice-cream, it’s chocolate ;-) Your distinction is very valuable. Tapping for the moment or tapping to dissolve a root cause. The root cause tapping will usually take some persistence. Thanks for the podcast.
