Pod #437: The Most Misunderstood Part Of Tapping? The Words You Say

March 9, 2020 By Gene Monterastelli 3 Comments

The most common question I hear about tapping is “Will tapping work for [insert issue]?” The second most common question is “What are the right tapping phrases to use for [insert issue]?”

I understand why that question is so often asked. In most tapping trainings you are taught that your tapping phrases need to be as specific as possible to get the most out of tapping.

This concern is compounded when you hear an experienced tapper effortlessly come up with what seem to be the perfect phrases.

In reality, there is no such thing as the “exactly right words” to tap along to. The words themself aren’t magic.

In this short audio I explain how best to approach the words and phrases that you can tap to AND the most effective way to come up with the perfect phrases for you.

The good news is that it’s much easier than you would think.

Thanks, Gene! This all FEELS so true, about words pulling amorphous feelings and thoughts into specificity.

And, my feeling is that words are actually very powerful! When we “voice” something, we take what’s whirling around, and distill it to its essence, bringing it into a more laser focus. So voicing in our heads, and then speaking the distilled truth, whether “positive” or “negative” helps us move to clearer recognition of what we’re working with.

Thanks for your articulateness, thoughtfulness, and skill (and your BIG, BIG HEART!)

BLESSINGS TO YOU THIS MAGICAL HOLIDAY SEASON!

Gene, am sitting at home with a broken ankle in a cast, waiting…for the bruises and blisters to heal so the conditions are right for the next step which is surgery. Am surrounded by a lovingly supportive family, all rallying around me in their own special ways. And I feel so, so grateful. And if that weren’t enough… I check my mail and find my friends writing in. And then there’s you in your newsletter / email reaching out to us in your kind, empathetic, generous ‘voice’. And I find that so reassuring and comforting, it feels like family… Obviously you don’t know me, but I want to say Thank you, and I hope we can grow old together..!

    Hi Gene, thanks.
Great reminder to be specific. and to add the questions ‘what are you hoping for’ etc. This is a good question…..
I was tapping on a friend the other day who was three days into healing after an operation. There was no way she wanted to go into anything other than the pain she was in.
“there is nothing going on.. I am just in a lot of pain” she said when I asked her “are there any emotions around this?”.. ( perhaps that was too direct a question from me )

I felt there was really no where to go with the tapping and we did another couple of rounds on ‘this pain’, ‘this maroon pain’, ‘this tight band of pain across my belly” etc… but we didnt really shift it much.. went from a 10 to an 8.
It was my inexperience at what to ask and also me getting in the way with ‘don’t really know what to do now’ self talk.
I ( later) had to tap on my feelings of disappointment in her for not wanting to ‘go with it fully’! :-) – but the lack of self belief feeling in me, I didnt tap on..- will now when I send this.
I do find consistent results with EFT when doing work with my daughter (and me) who is really interested in the emotions behind things.
In fact I am going for AAMET Level 1 and 2 certification classes starting tomorrow! more info and more experience of course will help me to be a better helper ( for me and others)

Thanks again for your great site and your expertise and wisdom and desire to share.
    Its greatly appreciated.
    Best for your moments,
    Kara
( Hope you enjoyed the decaf and the muffin! :-) )
