Pod #435: How To Get More Out Of Your Goals With Tapping

March 2, 2020 By Gene Monterastelli 5 Comments

Multiple studies have shown that stating clear goals makes it more likely that we will be successful. They help us to stay on track and maintain our focus.

But simply having goals is not enough. At one extreme it is easy to become disconnected from our goals because they are too abstract. At the other, we can find ourselves in a situation where we are so focused on our exact goals that we miss other opportunities.

This week’s podcast explores the one simple idea that you can add to any named goals that will increase your likelihood of success AND in many cases in a much easier way than planned.

This is a really good point. It’s so easy when a goal is elusive to focus more and more narrowly on the goal and to not remember what the goal means to you. I’ve been wanting to lose weight all my life. What enabled me to lose it was going to a cognitive psychologist who helped me to find a range of ways that I can comfort myself and support myself through stress, instead of always relying on food. Now I am losing weight but that is not the main thing. The really wonderful feeling is that I am looking after myself and ensuring that I get rest and recovery time and have some fun etc so that I don’t have to use food as my only source of recovery and fun. So my whole life is much more enjoyable and the weight loss is just a side effect of all that. So the “why” was crucial to the whole process. Also as I strengthened my survival skills (through meditation and time management etc), I had more strength left for making changes in my eating and exercise pattern whereas when I felt like life was using up every gram of my energy, then I couldn’t sustain any long term changes, which are the only ones that count in weight loss.

This is a great topic Gene, it connects us to the feel good part of why we want something, it gets us into how it makes our bodies feel and out of our heads

Wow, your messages (most importantly) always come from the heart and this one hit a bull’s eye. The why of anything is our motivation, our inner umph that keeps us going when we want to quit or get discouraged. Your words ooze of earnest love and sincere support and I can’t thank you enough.
