Why do you tap?
It seems like such a silly question to consider. Obviously (!) we tap to make ourselves feel better, remove pain, to be healthier, and to create a more enjoyable life.
I don’t disagree with any of those ideas. In a global way that is why I use Emotional Freedom Techniques as well. But it doesn’t get to the heart of the reason why we tap.
For me, there is a simple underlying principle that informs how I understand change, where to start when working with an issue, and how I can evaluate the long term success of tapping.
I am always trying to get better at what I do. In order to do that I need constantly to re-evaluate and challenge my own assumptions. I would love to hear your thoughts on this idea in the comments below. Your feedback will make me a better practitioner.

Love your work, makes so much sense, but I still struggle with staying mindful or taking a step back when strong irrational emotions flare to get that proportionate response or see the whole picture in that moment, most times hindsight and an ‘aha’ moment later, but then it’s too late. A question I have is, when tapping on strong emotional issues is it possible to incorporate healing of the Chakras also, strengthening and balancing oneself energetically or do you think this occurs as a by product/or in conjunction with the tapping. Your thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Best regards, Kathy

I am a Christian who taps while I pray. I believe that tapping with prayer is a way that helps me be more open with God in honest pleas for help and tapping helps me to be better informed about what I am feeling. Tapping helps to bring my emotions to the surface so they can be observed and accepted and released if needed. I find that tapping keeps me more focused on the issues and I see my self along with God as being able to makes better choice that can change things for the better. Tapping in prayer helps me be honest with my self and God in areas of my life where change is needed. Tapping with prayer helps me recognize my faulty thinking and false beliefs. I know I am not hiding anything from God when I am not being open and honest with Him and myself or if I am thinking I need clean up my own act before He will hear me. Tapping with prayer helps me get out my hidden beliefs and check them in with God to see if they are true or not. As a Christian I see God and The Word as the avenue for change and transformation — I see tapping as a tool that God can use to help get me where I need to be faster. We may have a tendency to hide the ugly stuff and not deal with it, but if we are to be free indeed, it is necessary to look at it all have the truth – tapping helps me do that. This is why I tap along with prayer. Thank you for your podcast.
