Mechanically tapping/Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a very easy thing to do. All you need is to provide stimulus to the tapping points plus tuning into the issue at hand. The tapping part is easy; what can be hard is the tuning in part. Often we are so close to an issue or we have been working on an issue that it is difficult to see it clearly.
Recently Jeremy Dean’s PSYBlog had a very interesting two part series (via kottke.org) which explored 14 of ways we can become more creative and more efficient problem solvers. In this four part series I am going to explore how we can apply many of these insights to tune into our issues in new ways (plus a few of my own).
One of the most powerful tools in transformation is our ability to forgive ourselves and others. When we forgive we are not saying it is ok. We are not saying we want to have the same thing happen again. What we are saying is that we are choosing to no longer be emotionally entangled in the past. Forgiveness is one of the steps of moving from reliving to remembering.
In this show we will explore the power of forgiveness and how we can us tapping to make forgiveness of others and ourselves an important part of our transformation.
One of the common mistakes we make when assessing a situation is making a generalizations. We say things like, “Everyone at work hates me!” or “Nothing I do is good enough for my boss!” It is obvious with a few moments of reflection that these statements aren’t true. Sure, there might be one or two people at work we don’t get along with, but it is not “everyone”.
The problem with these types of generalizations is they move us to a place were we are responding to them as if they were true. (The words we say out loud have that much power.)
If I walk into my workplace believing that everyone hates me I am going to act in a particular way. If I walk into my workplace believing that I don’t get along with Bill and Mary. I am going to act in a different way.

Often times when we are approaching transformation we look to adding new skills and resources (to do new things) or to heal past wound (that have us trapped in the past). These are great paths to pursue with our work, but they are not the only paths.
Many times we are carrying emotions, memories, or beliefs from the past that are no longer useful in the present. We also choose to carry burdens and problems for our loved ones. Letting go of these no longer useful burdens can quickly open us for healing of the issues we face in this moment.
This is a technique that I developed from some of the resources from Quantum Techniques. I use this with many of my clients at the end of sessions, especially when we have done powerful work. This is a great way to relax anytime of day, but is perfect for the end of the day or right before bed time.
The techniques is less than three minutes long and after you listen to it once you will have it mastered because it is so easy.

Darren over at ProBlogger recommended an exercise for bloggers that would allow an writer to remind their readers of what they have to offer. The exercise has two goals. First, it is to remind your long time readers of some of the better resources that have been created. Second, to introduce new readers to resources in the archive.
It seems like every client I have been working with for the last week and a half has asked me about tapping to help them to sleep. Daily stress is a very common cause for disrupting sleep because the system is busy trying to solve the problems of the previous day and is consumed with the worries of tomorrow. In this very simple tap-along audio you will get the chance to prepare the system for a great night of rest and relaxation. Not only do we spend time with being physically tired but also with emotional exhaustion and mental fatigue.
Many times we are making choices and responding to the world based on the expectations that we have received from friends, family, and cultural norms. These expectations might not be useful to who we would like to become. In many cases they can stop our progress. Here is a very simple Emotional Freedom Techniques(EFT)/tapping technique that can be used when dealing with the expectations that we have received from others.
One of the biggest problems with getting results while tapping with Emotional Freedom Techniques is we impede our success because we are not specific enough. In this article Rod Sherwin shows very simple way of using four questions to help us to get more specific.
The Hippocratic Oath (or some oath similar to it) is taken by most medical doctors in the western world. It is believed that it is based upon an oath written by the father of western medicine Hippocrates in the 5th century BCE.
I am not a doctor and I never give any medical advice, but I think there is a lot that we as practitioners can learn from the Hippocratic Oath.
Sometimes we make progress with our tapping that is so sublet that we don’t even notice it. Other times we make such a radical change that it is impossible to believe we had the problem before. We don’t have to recognize the progress we are making. The simple fact that we are progressing and growing is reward enough for doing our tapping work, but there are some befits to recognizing our progress.
One more time, what is the deal with psychological reversal and how does it relate to secondary gain?
This article came from an interview I did with Jared Tendler on performance ( Improving Performance with Tapping (Pod #35)). At one point in the interview Jared said, “I don’t believe there is such thing as an emotional decision.” After a brief discussion I agreed with him. Below is a longer explanation than what we got into in the interview of why I think he is right and how we can use this point of view to improve our tapping.
As wonderful as one-minute/one-session miracles are I think as a Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)/tapping community we are doing ourselves a disservice in the ways we talk about these one-minute miracles. I am not saying that there is no room for us to talk about these very real healing experiences, but I think we can get lost in our own enthusiasm and run potential tappers over. (I know I have!) Here are three of the problems I think we have created for ourselves.
Gene host’s a radio program every other Tuesday @ EFT Radio On-line. In the most recent show Gene answered questions from beginners and practitioners alike from all over the world.
I think being selfish gets are really bad rap. Most people think that being selfish is bad. We are taught we must not be selfish, but instead we must be giving. I personally don’t believe these things are opposite.
I am always on the look for new ways and easy ways to get tap on issues. Here is a great process by Natalie Hill. (Natalie writes regularly on new ways to approach tapping at EFT Tapping Techniques
I’m writing you today because I want you to sign up for one of my two Advanced Tapping Techniques live trainings that I am doing in August in San Diego and near Baltimore.
Every time I do more work on the class or talk to someone who is already signed up I get more and more excited.
The reason I’m writing you specifically is because I think you want to:
One of the conversation I have most often around Emotional Freedom Techniques(EFT)/tapping is how do it relate to religious traditions and spiritual practice. The questions range from is it okay to tap based on my religion/belief system to can tapping help my spiritual practice. I was interviewed by TapFest host Jondi Whitis and Co-Host Lillian Fimbres on EFT Radio. Here is our complete conversation.
In part 1a of this series we looked at all of the reasons to give something away for free. In this part we are going to look at what you have to offer for free and type of impact each of these things will have.
It is very important to spend time doing self-forgiveness work. If we do not forgive ourselves then we are never going to move forward because we are going to be an emotional prisoner to the past. When we refuse to forgive ourselves then it is like we are reliving the past moment over and over again.
There are many steps to this process, but one of the concepts I always talk to clients about is the difference between feeling guilty and regretting what happened.
I think the way we end a tapping session is just as important as the way we begin it. For me the end of the session is more than a signing off process, but it is the next step in healing. When we tap it is not a healing moment, but instead part of a healing process that is going to continue through out the day and through out our life.
I like to spend time at the end of a session (especially an emotional one) setting up the system to continue the work thought the day. The end of my sessions often looks like this:
One of the words that we throw around when talking about difficult times is the word trauma. In this interview I talk with EFT Master Gwyneth Moss about the true nature of trauma. She very succinctly examples how we experience trauma and how to deal with it. Trauma is not about something that happens, but the after effects. When we understand the true nature of trauma we are much more likely to be able to heal. This is one of those interviews that is worth listening to a number of times.
Giving stuff a way for free can be a tricky thing to do as a practitioner. On one hand it feels like a good idea because we are exposing potential clients to our products and services. On the other hand we can worry that if we give too much away potential clients are only going to take the free things and never buy.
Giving products and services away for free is a very key part of my business and marketing plan, but it needs to be more than “give it away and hope.” Every time we are giving something away for free (products, services, or our time) we need to be doing for a very specific reason. We need to be giving away for free with a plan.
While on retreat a few years ago Russ Hudson said, “We must be in touch with the mind, body, and spirit in order to be candidates for transformation.”
Because of the nature of the modern world we have lost touch with our physical bodies. Most of us are not working the land, in tune with the seasons, or using our bodies for work. Just watch someone who is on-line. It looks as if they have left their bodies.
It is very easy (and healthy) to reconnect with our physical bodies. Here is a great FREE tap along to find yourself reconnected with your body. Take a few moments at the beginning or ending of each day to tap along to this.
Gene host’s a radio program every other Tuesday @ Emotional Freedom Techniques Community Radio. In the most recent show Gene answered questions from beginners and practitioners alike from all over the world.
There are a number of goals I would like to achieve, but I feel like there is so much to do. I would like to ask others for help, but I am having a really hard time asking. Is there a way I can use tapping to help with this issue?
In this series we examine the importance of the words we use and how changing our vocabulary can change our mind giving us opportunity for transformation. This week we look at create v. responsible.
Our ability to be successful with any task is not just dependent on our skill set, but also our mental mind frame before, during, and after we are taking action. This mind frame cannot only impact our ability but also how we learn new tasks and improve our skill. In this podcast I talk Jared Tendler. Jared work with golfers and poker players around their mindset and mental game. Both of these games are great look at how we are impacted by mindset because of the immediate feedback we get from each choice. In this interview Jared talks about many different ways in which we can look at our mental makeup and how it relates to choice. The experienced tapper will see right away how to combine these mindset approaches with our Emotional Freedom Techniques(EFT)/tapping.
I have been amazing and touched by the growth of Tapping/EFT Q and A. It all started with a free blog, an e-mail to a hundred people, and a hope to make Tapping/EFT a little easier to understand. Now there are weeks where I spend as much as 20 hour a week just on content for the site and I have made connections with amazing people all over the world.
Because of all the new people we are reading the newsletter and visiting the site I figured it was time to do my every six months (re)introduce of the current mission and purpose of Tapping/EFT Q and A. Also always, if you have any questions about this (or anything else) please let me know.
In a number of Gary Craig’s original EFT DVDs he talked about how helpful knowing and understanding NLP concepts. I can speak from my own experience at how valuable these principles, concepts, and techniques are when working with clients or doing self-work. In this pod I interview the National Foundation Of Neuro Linguistic Programming founder Dr. Wil Horton. In this interview we talk about the different logical levels of change. When we recognize all of the different levels in which change can happen at it can speed the healing process as well as identify the places we need to do extra work.
Sometimes saying phrases out loud is a great way to tune in when tapping, but those phrases don’t always come easily. Here is an example of a great formula from Tania A. Prince for coming up with phrases.
Tapping can be used to help manage the functions and systems of the body. Often times our system can be hyper functioning or under functioning. Here is a great little tool I use to help us to tune into the body and get a sense of what is going on in the body and how we can tap for it.
As time passes I am working more and more with clients around practice building. There is a real feeling of “try it on everything” in the Emotional Freedom Techniques(EFT)/tapping community, but as we move from helping our friends with head aches and craving for chocolate on to working with clients we need more than just a willing spirit. In this interview EFT Master Carol Look speaks very frankly about two keys to keep in mind when you starting a practice.
I have been using tapping for the last six months and love the results. One thing I have noticed is that my family is not excited about my change at all. Some of the members of my family even resent it. Is this common and is there anything I can do about it?
Many times the body carries extra weight for a very specific reason. In this article we look at how we can understand the reason the body has for holding the weight.
Gene host’s a radio every other Tuesday @ Emotional Freedom Techniques Community Radio. In the most recent show Gene answered questions from listeners and readers from all over the world.
I want to share tapping with my friends and family and I would even like to teach workshops on tapping, but I don’t know where to begin. Do you have any suggestions on how to teach tapping to others?
There are times when we know we need to tap for an issue, but for some reason we just can’t bring ourselves to do it. In this article we talk about four of the most common reasons we sabotage our own success when it comes to finding time to tap.
I know I would like to have deeper loving relationships in my life, but for some reason I keep self-sabotaging. Is there a reason I might be doing this and is there a way to us tapping to deal with it?
Nuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a very powerful tool to help you to understand where you are standing and to help you to make choices to transform your life. NLP and EFT/tapping are a match made in heaven. More than likely you are already using NLP techniques and don’t even know it. In this pod Gene explains one of those techniques.
One of the many ways we can recognize the areas of our life for healing is by looking at the part of others peoples lives that frustrate us. Here is a simple tool to turn our frustrations in to tapping phrases.
Much of the time we spend with loved ones food is present. It can be in the form of celebration, gift, or just mealtime with loved ones. Because food is present in so may different aspects of our relationships our relationship to food can get tangled up in our relationship to relationships.
Most of us who have private practices or what private practices want to spend time helping our clients. We don’t want to spend time marketing. Not because we don’t think marketing is important, but because we aren’t very good at it or even worse it is scary. In this podcast I talk to Pamela Bruner and we discover that not only do you need to be marketing for your own sake, but for your clients sake. We talk about the unique challenges that transformational entrepreneurs have in marketing their products and services. This is a must listen to if you have a practice or would one day like one
I find the concept of “just perfect” is very interesting. What does just perfect mean. Often times we believe that just perfect means that is has to be top of the line. It means that it needs to be in the top one percent. It needs to be better than everyone else. But is that really the case?
One of the places it is easiest to emotionally beat ourselves up is over the types of foods we are eating. There are days that we can feel great because we have eaten “good” food, while other days we can be emotionally distraught be cause we ate “bad” foods. By changing the way we see food as good or bad we can change our emotional state about how we are eating.
Over the lifetime of this web site I have been keeping a very close tab on the most frequently asked questions and the most popular articles about tapping/EvEFT. Here are nine common topics, most of which are based on conversations with clients and e-mails from readers, dealing with why tapping works, what a person can expect during the healing process, and how to improve one’s tapping practice. Please keep the questions coming.
One of the most powerful insights I have had in my practice in the last 18 months was the recognition that every issue we have is trying to serve us in some way. This does not mean that issue is successful in doing so. In many cases the effort of the issue is making our life much worse. In podcast I explain an easy 9 step process you can use with tapping to transform your issues in to powerful resources for growth.
I am trying to get rid of the negative thoughts and feelings. Isn’t saying and thinking negative thoughts while tapping just reinforcing the negative situation I am in? Shouldn’t I just be saying positive things?
Struggle can lead to bitterness. Bitterness is the enemy of healing and transformation. Here is a tap-along to help dealing with bitterness in the face of struggle.
I receive questions all the time about how one can tap to change someone else. There are some very specific implementations of surrogate tapping (like the work I do with autistic children). But it is not as simple as tapping to change the choices of someone else. We can’t tap to change someone else free will, but we can tap to create an environment where we give others a chance to make new and different choices. In this podcast I explain 3 ways in which we can take to help others to make different choices by working on our own emotions, make others feel loved and save, and by not bring our issues to the table.
One of the reasons that I love EFT/tapping is because it is very effective in dealing with our critical voice. The critical voice is nothing more then that little nagging voice that is always pointing out everything we have done wrong, everything we are going to do wrong, and everything we are never going to be.
Sometimes this voice is nothing more than a simple annoyance, while other times it can be so crippling that it prevents us from getting out to bed in the morning.
Here is an easy 8 step process to transform the critical voice into a very powerful tool for change and transformation.
There are times when we know we are going to stepping in to situations where we are going to be facing a know issue (like going to a party where there are going to be tempting foods or into a meeting where we know we might get mad). When we know what our problem spots are we can do tapping ahead of time to issue we make better choices.
One of the biggest obstacles we face when we sit down to tap is to know what to tap on. We might have a sense of what we would like to change or how we would like to grow, but the change can feel so large that we don’t what steps to take first. In this article AnaMaria Herrera explains that some times the best first step is to decided to make a change, which then leads to a clearer path and the next step.
One of the most difficult parts of releasing weight is making changes to how we eat. There are two aspects to changing the way we eat: mealtime eating and between meal eating. In this article we look at the many different ways we can use tapping to deal with mindless eating.
We spend as much as one half of our waking hours at work. Not only is it important that we have a way of dealing with the stress of our jobs, but we also need to help manage the way this stress might affect the rest of our lives. In this interview with Pamela Bruner we talk about how we can use tapping to deal with work place stress, how to use tapping to improve our performance on the job, and how to use tapping to keep the work stress from creeping into other parts of our lives.
I would like to be more financially successful, but for some reason I just keep making really poor choices. It is almost as if a part of me wants me to stay poor. I don’t even know where to begin with this issue. Do you have any suggestions?
The extra weight that we hold is often times associated with and symptoms of deeper emotional issues. In this interview Catherine Poole talks about what emotions are most often associated with the different problems areas of weight gain. Once we are able to understand the emotional roots of the weight we are carrying it becomes easier for us to release both the emotional wound as well at the physical weight.
I am new to tapping and love it, but I don’t know where to start. I set time aside everyday to tap. When I sit down to tap either nothing comes to mind or everything comes to mind all at once. I know there are lots of areas of my life that need transformation. Any suggestion on getting started?
One of the most often used terms and at the same time most misunderstood term used by people in the tapping community is “psychological reversal”. In this interview, in easy to understand language, Gwenn Bonnell describes what PR is, what is symptoms are, and many techniques for clearing it.
One of the most difficult things about weight release is believing that we can achieve our goals. Often we are often carry the baggage of failed past attempts at weight release, a family history of carrying too much weight, and the fact that we have held the weight for so long it seem that is stuck and can’t possibly be released. In this article we look at the different reasons we fear failure (not just for weight release) and how we can use tapping to move past these fears.
Gary Craig and many other practitioners use the phrase “I love and accept myself” sometimes adding “deeply and completely” in their set-up phrases. I don’t know about you, but I’ve come in contact with quite a few people that have a real aversion to this statement. Seems to me, that if we loved and accepted ourselves, most of our ‘problems’ would not exist in the first place. Do we need to use this phrase while tapping?
Writing a description of an interview with Rick Wilkes is always a difficult task. On the surface there is the topic at hand for the interview, but when we are chatting things move more much far afield into deep issues of healing and well-being than just the topic at hand. In this interview we talk about the spectrum from feeling completely and irrationally unsafe to complete and total inanition. Anytime there is resistance to change it is really important to ask “Do we feel safe making this change?” In the interview we talk about a number of ways of framing this question to make is more accessible for every issue. In addition to talk about extreme fears and uncomfortable situation we talk about finding space that is safe to heal and what true healing means. This is not just about eliminating fear, but being in a space of feeling alive in every way.
We do ourselves a disservice by thinking we are constantly in need of improvement. Our true joy can be found in being who we are.
The first step in the healing process is recognizing it is safe to heal. In this article we discuss why our system can believe it is not safe to heal and how we can do some simple tapping to create a state of safety allowing us to return to our natural healthy state.
One of the most difficult parts of tapping is trying to figure out what the root cause is the current emotions we are feeling. There are times when we have a guess of a past event might be that is associated with what is going on, but many times even when we have a guess we are not certain it is the right issue to work on. In this podcast Tania A. Prince explains part of the process she calls Deep State RePatterning which gives us access to information about a past event. Not only does the process give us access into the subconscious mind to find information it also allows us to do this safely and gives us an opportunity to do transformation work with that information.
I spend a great deal of time talking to my clients and writing on this site about the importance of having a disposition of gratitude. In this podcast I share a bit of the science of what is going on when we feel both gratitude and poverty. [Note: in this discussion poverty is any feeling of lack, not just not having enough money.] When we understand what is going on in the body when we feel these emotions and how these emotions effect our choices it becomes much easier to see the places we can apply tapping for healing.
This is one of my favorite processes. I teach it in my advanced class as an example of both guided imagery and parts work. I do this process at least one a week myself. The first time I did it I was amazed at the information my system gave me. In this version of it Jessica of the Tapping Insiders Club ask me a few questions about the process and then you can just tap right along with it.
Each month the Tapping Insiders Club does an “Ask The Expert” interview where they pose questions from their members to a tapping practitioner. For the month of December I was asked to field these questions. In this interview Jessica Ortner ask me questions from total tapping beginners to questions from practitioners.
Asking the question “What proof do you have to feel this way or to belief this?” is a powerful tool for clearing issues and limiting beliefs.
In one of the advanced tapping classes I teach one full class is devoted to lessons we can learn from great change work professional. Gary is one of the people I feature in the class. In that vain here are two lessons that can be learned form Gary’s work and two lessons that can be learned for Gary’s announced retirement.
One of the most common uses of tapping is weight release and craving control. In this interview Pat talks about the basic steps we need to take to be success in weight release. After giving this overview Pat talks emotional eating and then talks in very specific term about the mindless eating we do and how we can use tapping to deal with the craving eating and the habitual eat (e.g. eating every time we watch tv).
Pamela shares some of the lessons she learned co-editing the book “EFT and Beyond”
Holidays are very busy emotional times. The last 10 weeks of the year are jam packed with holidays, each with their own special meaning and traditions. Each holiday also has its own color palette. From the oranges of Halloween to the reds and greens of Christmas, these color haven’t happened by accident, but also carry the meaning of the holiday. In this podcast I talk to “The Queen of Color” Catherine Poole about what each color means emotionally and how by being aware of this we can keep our over eating and over spending in check while being open to the love and connection of the holiday.
We spend as much as 1/2 of our waking hours at work, thinking about work, or commuting. In this podcast I talk to Lynne Shaner about why it is so important to deal with work related stress. We talk about a whole ranges of topics when it comes to work related stress and the very easy ways in which we can use tapping to deal with work related stress not only at work but also at home after the work day.
One of the most common questions I get this time of year is “How do I tap to deal with cold and flu season?” In this bonus podcast I have created a tap along audio that shows you my three favorite ways to deal with immune health.
In a previous article I talked about Process Instruction as a way of finding root issues and resources for transformation. I received a number of questions about the article. The concept itself is a little esoteric and as a technique it is far less straightforward in comparison to many of the other tools featured on this site.
In this series we examine the importance of the words we use and how changing our vocabulary can change our mind giving us opportunity for transformation.
In the podcast I share part of a client session around the issue of quitting smoking. Even if you are not a smoker you are going to find this very helpful and informative. This session provides a number of very clear examples of how we can bridge from a physiological feel (in this case the desire to smoke a cigarette) to thoughts and memories from the past.
Process instructions are a type of NLP pattern that uses the subconscious mind to tap into resources that we didn’t realize we had or resources we didn’t realize would be helpful for the issue at hand. In this article I explain what process instructions are, how to create them, and how to easily introduce them in to your tapping right away.
One of the biggest struggles newcomers have with tapping is coming up with tapping phrases. I learned to find the ‘right’ thing to say by reading lots of scripts and patter written by other practitioners. I found phrases, ideas, and formulas that will make it easier for you to come up with your own. Here is a great example of a simple 4 step formula to come up with phrases using your own words.
Can people with neurostimulator implants or pacemakers receive benefits from tapping? I understand the presence of the body’s natural energy (electricity) system, but don’t both of these medical devices also produce electrical charges within the body?
Often times we treat our body as the enemy and working our way back to being healthy as a battle. We feel betrayed, hopeless, and frustrated by our body. When we do this we are turning on our self. As hard as it is to believe, our body us in this state because the system believes this is the best state we can be in. It either believes we can get no healthier or it believes by being in our current state it is going to keep us safe. Once we recognize that we are our body and that our body is trying to function in a way that is best it then becomes possible to work with our bodies to move down the paths to greater health and well being.
I respond much better to doing setups on my sore spot(s) than on my Karate Chop point. But I have found that my best response is if I tap on, even thump a bit, on the sore spot(s) rather than rubbing. Is this common or am I very unusual? Also, when I tap on my collar-bone it works much better if I tap on my sore spot as well as my collar bone spot. Is this ok/normal?
In the past week I discovered that I have high blood pressure. I am fit, a vegetarian, and in my forties. Because of a medical condition from my thirties the high blood pressure is a serious issue. I am under the care of a medical doctor in regards to this, but am wondering the best way to use tapping to assist the healing process. Also, should I go overboard and tap every hour, or is there such a thing as too much tapping?
It is difficult for us to see the people we love suffer. Often we don’t consider the consequences when we rush in to help. Our need to bring peace and comfort can over riders all other thoughts and consideration. This is not always the healthiest choice for our self in the short and/or long term.
Sometimes when we choose to help we do so by taking on the burden of our loved ones. Many times we can carry these burdens for years. Often we don’t even realize this is case or we have taken on these burdens when we were very very young, having no memory of choose to takes these burdens on.
When the burdens of others have been a part of our lives for so long they feel like they are a part of us and we don’t realize they are something that can be released.
At the beginning of every yoga class our teacher asks us to pick a word or short phrase to use as the intention for the class. Last night the word that came to mind was “abundance”. Obviously this is something my higher wisdom is wanting me to spend some time with, but I am not sure what to do with the word. Do you have any suggestions on how I could incorporate this idea into my tapping?
In this episode we discuss how tapping affects the brain and the biochemistry of the body. It is one thing to know that it is possible for us to tap and find relief, but it something complete different to understand what is going on inside the body. When we understand what is going on in the brain and in the biochemistry of the body (and how this effects the way new cells are produced) it allows us to do two things. First, it can help us to tailor our tapping in such a fashion that we can get the most out of the tapping session because we can do it in a more effective way. Second, it helps us to understand the way the body changes so we can more clearly track our progress and maintain realistic expectations of how the healing process is going to unfold.
I have a very important decision to make. When I consider one of the options I have a very strong emotional reaction. I am not sure if this is my higher-self warning me about making the choice or if it is a limiting belief that I shouldn’t heed. I am worried that I am going to tap away my higher wisdom and make a bad choice. How do I know if I should use EFT/Tapping on this issue?
The holiday season feels like it is months and months away, but will be here before we know it. The holidays bring joy, friends and family, but they also bring too many parties with lots of yummy treats and the stress of the hectic schedule. You can do something about the stress of the holiday season NOW!
Music is very powerful. It can lift our spirits and help us to feel connected to something that is larger than ourselves. The music from our past brings back particular moments and emotions and can be used to help find our way right to the core of many current issues and limiting beliefs. This can be a very powerful tool when we can’t access any memories of a past experience; we can use the music to transport us right back into that time.
When I do tapping/EFT I normally tap for thirty minutes (or more). Many times I have noticed that with in the next 24 hours gets very sore, from the top of my head to my tailbone. This is muscle pain and it feels something like lactic acid when you work your muscles too hard and they become inflamed. Do you have any idea what is causing this and how it can be avoided in future?
I am asked all the time by parents about how they can surrogately tap for their children. There is a great deal of confusion around what to say and what to focus on.
Over the lifetime of this web site I have been keeping a very close tab on the most frequently asked questions and the most popular articles. Here are nine common topics, most of which are based on conversations with clients and e-mails from readers, dealing with why tapping works, what a person can expect during the healing process, and how to improve one’s tapping practice. Please keep the questions coming.
Recently I have been working with a number first time clients. Many of them are very experienced with Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/EvEFT) and have come to work with me because they are dealing with something that is much larger than the normal day to day issues they use tapping for.
One of the things I find so enjoyable about my work is the type of clients I get to work with. Many of them are motivated to become, for lack of a better description, their ‘higher self’. Based on their background and belief system they may use many different terms and phrases to describe this desire, but the core desire is basically the same. Many of them use the term “calling” for this, believing that there is something higher compelling them to live in this way.
Often my clients find themselves struggling because they feel they are falling short of their goal, or because they believe they don’t understand what their true calling is.
I know Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/EvEFT) and tapping works, but for some reason there are a few issues that I can’t seem to make any progress with at all. Do you have any advice for jump-starting progress on a stubborn issue?
In this day and age financial success seems to be on everyone’s mind. For those of us who have been doing change work we know there is much more to this than just the money in our bank account. We need to understand our own issues around money and success as well as have a clear vision of what success looks like. In this podcast EFT practitioner AnaMaria Herrera shares a few of the common mistakes people make when tapping for financial success as well as giving a number of tips on how to get to the root cause of our limiting beliefs around money.
EFT/EvEFT is not only a powerful tool in transforming our own lives, but we can use it to care for our loved ones. This is not limited to just humans, but we can extend this love and care through tapping to our animals as well. In this episode I talk with Susanne Peach about how tapping for animals is similar and different to surrogately tapping for humans. Susan give a number of very practical tips in how you can start tapping right way for your animals.
My husband and I are having trouble conceiving a child. Can tapping help?
One of the most common questions I get about tapping (EvEFT/EFT) is “What do I do when I don’t know what memories from the past are effecting my behavior or emotions today?” In this interview I talk to Rob Sherwin about a very cool protocol call Solution Focused Brief Therapy. In this protocol you don’t have to worry about why you are the way you are, but instead it focuses on how to move to what you want. Personally, I find this to be a great approach because even when I don’t know why things are the way they are I am going to know where I want to be or who I want to be. In this interview Rod lays out the basic steps of SFBT that can easily be added to any tapping routine.
Some people aren’t comfortable with the idea of gambling, but my experience working with a professional poker player demonstrated how our emotions can override our logic, how this can be disastrous, and how easy it is to use tapping (EvEFT/EFT) to make changes.
Often we are ourselves the biggest obstacle to our success. We hold beliefs that prevent us from trying, that prevent us from recognizing the opportunities we have to move forward. “Brian” was in a situation where he wanted to move forward with his business. He came up with a number of brilliant ideas to move his business ahead, but when push came to shove he wouldn’t take the steps he needed to take to move forward.
This week in the podcast we look at two of the most common questions I receive. First, we look at how emotions like anger, frustration, jealousy, and sadness can server us. Second, we look at how to come up with the phrases to say when we are tapping and do we need to say phrases out loud when doing barrowing benefit work.
On June 3rd I filled in as the guest host on the EFT Class on BlogTalk Radio. The topic for the show was EFT from a Christian Perspective and my guest was John Soriano.
One of the characteristics of a strong emotional response is the fact that IT holds our attention to that response. This can become problematic when it comes to understanding the healing process we are going through. We do ourselves a disservice when we don’t recognize the progress we are making, and this can affect our future healing.
As humans one of the places we have the opportunity to find joy and discover who we are is through the relationships we have. Because of this we have a tendency to over think, over analyze, and over function as we try to find these relationships. Tapping can be a great tool in helping us to find our way to love relationships and helping them to thrive. In the pod we talk to Gina Parris about how to use tapping to find and grow our romantic relationships.
There are many reasons we want to make changes in our life. Often, the greater the perceived reward the greater the motivation we have. Many times there’s more than one reason for making a change. Understanding these reasons can be key to our transformation.
Reward systems are very effective as a motivator to get a task done, but they can also become problematic if they are not carefully created or used. Sometimes they can be created and we don’t even realize it is happening.
Here is an example of how a reward system had become transformed. At one time it served as benefit, but was now causing problems.
Sometimes the hardest word to say is “no”. We want to be helpful. We want to give. We don’t want to be seen as selfish. We want to be asked again in the future. There are so many reasons to say “yes”. But there are also many good reasons to say “no”.
There are few wounds that run deeper than being part of an abortion decisions. In this pod I talk with Dene Ballantine about how it is possible to heal through this type of wound. Dene offers expertise from her own story and her practice. There are many pearls of wisdom in this interview for anyone who is trying to heal.
Every issue we have exists because it is functional on some level (example: fears are trying to protect us). The problem is these tend to create problems in our daily lives, due to misinformation or protection from something beneficial (example: irrational fear of water). This can slow the healing process because we are “at war” with ourselves. The healing process can be transformed when we first approach these issues with gratitude for their functional uses. By doing this we can work with these beliefs instead of fighting them, as we work to health and well being.
Can I use meridian tapping (EvEFT) to help me learning new things?
Can I use meridian tapping (EvEFT) to help me learning new things? [Note: In this part of the series I use the example of using tapping to learn something new as a way of describing how we can find the reasons we talk ourselves out of making the choices and taking the action that will move us forward.]
After podcast #7 (Sensitive Temperaments) I was inundated with requests. Lots of readers and clients said something to the effect of, “Rue was talking about me. I never knew what was going on. Now that I know this is who I am, what do I do about it?”
Everyone in my life says that I am “way too sensitive” and it’s frustrating. I love the fact that I feel so deeply, but I don’t like everyone thinking I am overreacting. Is there something wrong with me?
Have you ever heard, “Oh, you are just too sensitive…You take things so hard…Just let it roll off your back…Why can’t you just let it go…What’s wrong with you…You are such a cry baby”??? Then you probably have a sensitive temperament. BUT this is not a bad thing. There are many blessing that come with a sensitive temperament. In this podcast I talk with Rue Hass about what sensitive temperament is, how it can be a blessing, and how you can use EFT to manage the challenges of sensitive temperament.
I know EFT can be a very powerful tool to help with getting my emotions under control. My daughter was just diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum and I am just a ball of emotions. I don’t know where to start. What can I tap on?
Recent studies have shown that as many as 1 out of every 142 children born today will be diagnosed some where on the autism spectrum (ASD). Even now very little is known about the causes of the symptoms associated with ASD. In this episode I interview John Roedel. He shares his family journey with ASD and how they have used EFT in that journey.
It seems like we are living in an ever more stressed world. Now we’ll learn what stress is, the difference between good and bad stress, how stress affects the body in the short and long term, and how to use EFT to deal with stress. Stress expert Ron Ball talks about how stress can cause long-term damage and how easy it is to deal with stress in just a few minutes a day.
I know EFT can be powerful toll to help my children. My kids and I tap together every night at bedtime, but I am wondering if there is something more I could do. I want to be the best parent possible. Is there a way to us EFT around parenting issues?
When I am tapping all sorts of things come to mind. Sometimes the memories are clearly connected to what I am tapping on. Other times they are thoughts about memories and people that seem to have nothing to do with what I am tapping on. What should I do with these thoughts?
I have been successful with EFT when it comes to working on minor aches and pains. There are some big emotional things from my past I would like to tap on, but I am afraid. I worry that I am going to tap away my ability to feel emotions. Is EFT going to leave me emotionless?
Have you ever wondered what an Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/EvEFT) practitioner is thinking during a session and on what basis they decide what to do next? In this interview with Michele Price I give some insight into my thought process and the fundamental principles about healing that guide me. We talk about my 5 of my fundamental dispositions of healing and do some tapping. These are principles that shape the way I understand the world and healing.
I was working with a client named “Jane”. Jane really knows Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/EvEFT). I said to her, “I have a radical suggestion for you. And you don’t need to do it. But it is a thought. I think you need to surrogately tap for both of them!”
Surrogate tapping can be one of the most confusing topics when learning Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/EvEFT eveft.html). It can be difficult enough to accept that tapping on the body while tuning into physical and emotional issues can provide relief. It becomes a much more difficult leap to believe that tapping in the same way on our own body will provide relief for someone else.
There are lots of great EFT audios that are on-line and free. Here are the ones I have listened to and liked.
How to use the body to find information about lessons to learn and healing to do?
In this episode we talk with pain relief expert Dan Cleary. Dan (speaking from personal experience about chronic pain) has an amazing point of view about how to gain pain relief. In this interview he talks about the “10% solution” that will reshape your understanding of pain even if you don’t experience chronic pain.
There are times when we feel like we have messed up to the point that not only have we let ourselves down, but we have also let God down. In these times I have found Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/EvEFT) a very helpful tool.
In this episode we answer the question “How can I make EFT part of my daily routine?” and an interview with Rick Wilkes in which he shares how to effectively heal without excessive emotional highs and lows.
Sadness can be one of the hardest emotions to use Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/EvEFT) for. It just doesn’t do it justice to tap on the phrase, “I feel sad.”
Release the desires you have for the food that is bad for you and gain desires for the food your body needs.
I have a lot of issues that I want to use Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/EvEFT) on, but I don’t know where to begin. Should I do the memories chronologically or should I do them is chunks of related issues?
There are times when we know Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/EvEFT), but we don’t know where to begin. We are either faced with so many issues our mind jumps from one issue to another, or we have so much going on that we can’t seem to get a grip on any one issue.
I love EFT and use it a lot. It’s been very helpful with small emotional issues and simple physical pains. But when it comes to bigger issues I have a concern. I’m afraid that if I change the person I am I will hurt the people I love. Do you have any advice?
Often when we do change work we feel like the deeper we dig into an issue the worse it gets. It is almost as if we stir up issues that weren’t there before. This can be frustrating and overwhelming.
When we leave our thoughts alone in our head they have a tendency to be magnified. The mind serves as an echo chamber (especially in the middle of the night). Each time a thought or worry is bounced around it get stronger and stronger. We can combine Evolving Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/EvEFT) with a simple task to take the charge out of our thoughts and feelings.
Sometimes the healing process is hampered by our logical mind. We get to the point where we can name our issues, but they make no sense at all. We can logically see how things are different from what our emotions believe. This can be a very difficult point in the healing process because we realize that we can’t talk ourselves out of misguided or wrong emotional beliefs. Because we can’t logic our way out of something, we don’t know where to turn and can feel helpless in the healing process.
I am dealing with homework issues and tantrums with my 8 year-old daughter. Parenting her really takes all my energy. It seems I spend more time battling with her than enjoying her. How can I approach this issue?
There are times when we have very powerful Evolving Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/EvEFT) sessions. When we sit down later to tap, we wish there was a way to recapture the healing aspects of that session or continue to work on those issues. It is much easier to do than one would think.
To work down a path of healing we need to take stock of where we are and what issues we would like to heal. One of the questions that come to mind when we do this is, “How did I get here?” This can become a consuming question, to the point that it distracts us from the healing process itself.
How I discovered that a simple chime every 15 minutes could change my day and my health.
The most common reason my clients don’t do their EFT homework between sessions is, “I don’t know what words to say. When I tap with you it is so easy. When I’m on my own I get stuck.” But there is a way for the subconscious to solve this problem for you.
Beginning the healing process can be very overwhelming. The moment we start investigating what is going on in our lives we become aware of many areas of healing that we had been blind to before. This can be very frustrating and can leave us hopeless.
I am very aware that there are times when we have pain in the body that has an emotional base. There are also times when we just hurt ourselves. I just twisted my knee and it still hurts a few days later. Do I tap in the same way with this sort of physical pain as I would for pain that is emotionally-based?
Why do you use the term Evolving Emotional Freedom Techniques (EvEFT) instead of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)?
One of the biggest struggles in our process of growing and changing is the fact that we don’t often believe that we deserve healing.
When I was at the gym today for my morning workout I didn’t have to wait in line for any of the machines, but everything was basically full.
When I went to the gym three days ago I had to wait 15 minutes to use one of the machines.
The reason why?
New Year’s resolutions!
Everyone makes them…and no one keeps them.
I have found EFT to be a very powerful tool. I have used it to clean up a number of deep emotional issues, but have noticed a number of unusual sensations after doing a session. Sometime I am really tired after a session, while other times I feel a little more emotional than when I started but wake up the next day feeling like a new person. Are these common experiences? Is there anything I can do after a session to make sure I’m taking care of myself? Is there anything I can do to make sure the results of the session stick?
During the holiday season we are re-reminded that it is important to give thanks for the peace in our lives, homes, and world. We are also given the chance to consider the peace we long for. Please take some time this week and tap on these phrase to help bring peace.
There are times when I want to spend a little time tapping, but I don’t have a specific issue or I don’t really want to dive into a very emotional issue. Is there any benefit to just tapping with no particular intention? [Note: The example in this article on how to tap without words is a prefect way to tap to help you get a good night sleep or to just relax.]
My 8-year-old son has been taught how to tap by an EFT Practitioner and I have done it with him off and on. When something comes up and I tell him to tap on it, he doesn’t want to! Do you have any suggestions on helping my son make tapping a part of his life?
I always seem to be using EFT for the things that go wrong in my life or the things I want to change. Does it do any good to tap on things that are going right and if so how would I do this?

There is someone at work who drives me crazy, always picking fights and causing lots of disharmony in the office. Changing jobs isn’t really an option for me. Is it possible for me to tap to change their behavior?
Cold and Flu season is coming. Is there a way I can use EFT to keep myself healthy?
I was introduced to EFT about a year ago and I love it. I’m amazed at the way it quickly gets rid of unwanted emotions, but I’m wondering if this is always a good thing. I made some really poor choices in the past. I feel really bad about these choices. I know EFT would be a great tool for getting rid of these emotions, but I’m afraid that if I don’t feel bad about them that I am condoning the past behavior. Is it okay to let go of these negative emotions about my past choices?
I was on the teleclass you did with Catherine Poole on color and I loved it. But there is still something I am confused about. She talked about how each type of physical issue is related to a color (or a couple of colors). It sounds like if we are suffering in that part of our body we could tap using EFT and just image that color coming in. My questions is how do I know which color to bring in?
I know EFT is most effective when I am really specific about what I am tapping on, but I am really having a problem with that because there are so many emotions at once I don’t know where to start. One thought leads to the next that leads to the next. What do I do when I don’t know what to focus on because there is so much going on at once?
There are a number of healing traditions that use color as part of the healing process. Is it possible to use these techniques or color in general in combination with EFT?
I’ve heard that EFT has been used effectively with kids who have Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). How can I use EFT with ASD?

I’m wondering how to approach a new client. She is interested in EFT, but says that she is only willing to give her issue two sessions, maybe three, tops, since she has been in therapy for years. She says she doesn’t want to start any long-term therapy. I saw her this last Friday for the first time, and we only talked (and when I say “we” talked I mean she only talked). You talk about multiple issues? This is the queen. I have a session with her next Friday. I don’t even know where to start. If this were your client, where would you start?
I have read a number of your articles. I love the fact that you often give tapping phrases to go along with the info, but you don’t give them in a way that I am used to seeing tapping phrases. Why don’t you use the phrase “even though I…” while tapping on the KC point and why don’t you list tapping points with the tapping phrases?
I have so many emotions and memories coming up all at once that I’m overwhelmed by them. It feels like they are queuing up to get fixed! Yes, I’m glad this stuff comes up and I deal with it as it comes, but issues are tumbling out so fast they are landing on top of each other. I can’t spend all day in the bathroom at work! How do I deal with all these emotions without being so overwhelmed?
In a recent newsletter you talked about using a forgiveness poem as a tapping tool. I’m not sure what I am supposed to do. Can you give me more instruction?
I remember reading a suggestion about “asking” a troubled body part what it’s trying to tell you. What exactly does that mean? And how does the answer get conveyed? Would it be a thought or words popping into your head? If so, would it be immediately or would it require additional tapping?
I have recently been diagnosed with a rodent ulcer on my chest that will need surgery…or will it? I have asked my Reiki students and colleagues to send distance healing and I wonder whether EFT may also be used? I am unsure what affirmation to use in this instance. Do you have any suggestions on phrases that I should use?

In real terms, what does it actually look like when I start making changes in my life with EFT?
I need to make some very important choices about my future. Is there anything I can do with EFT to help me make the “right” decisions?
I have heard a lot of talk about how pain can have emotional issues. Is this true? If so can I use the pain to discover and work on the emotional issues tied to the pain?
Has anyone mentioned to you that they feel REALLY fatigued after an EFT session? I have had about three sessions with clients where some really amazing core issues moved. At the end of the session the clients felt quite tired after. Is this normal?
After an accident I have had physical therapy and I’m doing better. As part of my therapy I am supposed to do sit-ups/leg raises, but the strain on my lower back is too much and the next day I can barely stand up or bend over. I know as I do more therapy it will get better, but I was wondering if I could use EFT to do the sit-ups/leg raises to build my muscles?
How long should I use EFT on an issue? Is it important that I tap on an issue until it is 100% clear? How many sessions should I work on the same issue?
I’m very effective at using EFT for physical pain and small frustrations, but when it comes to the big emotional issues, I just don’t know where to start. Is there anything I can do with EFT to help with my emotional triggers?
Is there anything I can do with EFT to help with my emotional triggers?
Is it really necessary to verbalize the issue and give a number rating when doing EFT?
Is it necessary to have the intention of releasing or letting go of the negative thought, feeling, or physical pain while tapping? I am trying to understand why fretting, stewing, or worrying about an issue consciously doesn’t dissolve the emotions, but tapping while expressing it does.
I have hesitancy (read as fear) when making phone calls. How can I use EFT on this issue?
Is there anything I can do with EFT to help with my emotional triggers?
When I was working with the person who taught me EFT, it worked great. Now that I’m working on my own, I don’t know what phrases to use. Do you have any suggestions?
Should you keep tapping the same issue day after day? If you are doing okay without tapping, should you still keep tapping the same issue? For how long?
I don’t believe some of the things I say when I tap. Does that matter?
I recently had a chance to EFT with someone who was having a really bad day. I didn’t have a lot of time to explain what we were doing, but I didn’t know how to start. Because of my lack of confidence in how to explain what we were going to do, I didn’t do anything. Any Suggestions?
