Bonus Pod #25: The One Thing That Is More Important Than Your Goals

I had a really interesting conversation with one of my clients this week about goals. It is obviously that having goals are important (multiple studies have proven this), but goals have their limits. If we become to transfixed on the goal with can miss other greatness. If we only focus on the goal itself we can lose our passion. To me there is something much more important than the goal.

It is why you want this goal. Listen to how I the “why” of the goal can make all the difference.

TapAlong #8A: Looking at things in new ways

Sometimes we want to move forward but can’t because we feel like we are taking a step too far. We need to know that it is okay to push the envelope sometimes.

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward. Maybe they have to be crazy. How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels? While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”— Apple Commercial, 1997

TapAlong #7A: Staying Focused

“The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.”- Stephen Covey
It is very easy for use to get distracted. It feels like there are a million things pulling us in a million different directions. It is good that we take a step back and reflect on what is really important and where our focus needs to be. When we do this it is easier for us to stay focused.

TapAlong #6A: The crap I know is better than the crap I don’t know

Sometimes it is hard to move forward because we are worried about what might go wrong. The situation we are in right now isn’t perfect, but we know everything that isn’t perfect and we know how to manage it. There might be people who push our buttons, but we know how to deal with them. There might be tasks that we hate doing, but we brace ourselves for those tasks and we just push ourselves through. Even though this isn’t perfect, we know how to deal with it. In this predictable, familiar world, the future is known. However, making changes brings the unknown. We might get what we want, but we also might bring problems we are not ready for and problems we can’t handle. When considering making changes (even positive ones) part of us is willing to remain stuck with the problems that we can manage instead of trying to do something new for fear of something bad happening to us.

The Hardest and Most Radical Tapping You Can Do

I was working with a client named “Jane”. Jane really knows Emotional Freedom Techniques(EFT)/Tapping. I said to her, “I have a radical suggestion for you. And you don’t need to do it. But it is a thought. I think you need to surrogately tap for both of them!”

Her response was a loooong pause, followed by, “OK, I’m listening. Why would I do that?”

Bonus Pod #14: The Past, The Future, and Now

One of my clients recently asked me, “What is the end game to this tapping thing?” What he meant by the question is besides the constant improvement of our lives (which is no small thing), where does tapping lead us? What is the final goal?

This is a really interesting questions. This bonus podcast is my reflection on this point. I would love to hear your response to my thoughts. Please add your thoughts in the comments below.

Can I Tap In Something Bad?

I have a very important decision to make. When I consider one of the options I have a very strong emotional reaction. I am not sure if this is my higher-self warning me about making the choice or if it is a limiting belief that I shouldn’t heed. I am worried that I am going to tap away my higher wisdom and make a bad choice. How do I know if I should use EFT/Tapping on this issue?

Pod #13: Solution Focused Brief Therapy w/ Rod Sherwin

One of the most common questions I get about tapping (EvEFT/EFT) is “What do I do when I don’t know what memories from the past are effecting my behavior or emotions today?” In this interview I talk to Rob Sherwin about a very cool protocol call Solution Focused Brief Therapy. In this protocol you don’t have to worry about why you are the way you are, but instead it focuses on how to move to what you want. Personally, I find this to be a great approach because even when I don’t know why things are the way they are I am going to know where I want to be or who I want to be. In this interview Rod lays out the basic steps of SFBT that can easily be added to any tapping routine.
